PHELAN, Ca. – An 18-year-old Phelan mother was arrested for the abuse of her 2-year-old daughter, authorities said.
Maria Julia Mendoza- Aguilar was arrested after on Sunday, August 23, 2020, her toddler was admitted into the Loma Linda University Medical Center Pediatric Intensive Care Unit with severe injuries. The injuries were allegedly, according to medical professionals at the hospital, caused by non-accidental trauma.
Through investigation, detectives learned that the baby’s biological mother, Mendoza-Aguilar was caring for the child at the home in the 9800 block of Beekley Road in the City of Phelan when the injury occurred. The investigation led to the arrest of Mendoza-Aguilar for Willful Cruelty to a Child. She is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
