PHELAN – A woman was shot and killed on Wednesday evening after being shot in the chest. The shooting occurred at around 4:47 p.m. in the 8700 block of Olivera Road in Phelan. The reporting advised that the suspect Ashley Beauchamp, 32, of Phelan shot the woman identified as Laura Morris, 48, a San Bernardino County resident in the chest and she was not conscious.

While deputies and emergency personnel were en route, the caller updated that the victim was no longer breathing. When deputies arrived they confirmed that the woman had no pulse and was not breathing. CPR was begun on the woman, but she died as a result of her injuries.

Authorities learned that there was a dispute between Morris and Beauchamp, which ended in the shooting. Beauchamp called 911 and reported the incident, then fled the scene. A second reporting party called just moments later.

Beauchamp was described as being an approximately 32-year-old White woman, she was also described as being 4-5 months pregnant with short curly hair, and blue eyes, The caller said she left in a beige pickup truck with stripes on the side with a person by the name of Mohawk Don who lived in a doublewide mobile home approximately ½ mile from the location. A deputy advised that he saw the vehicle, but there was no woman in the vehicle, only two men.

Deputy Moyer and K9 Ellie responded to the scene and tracked Ashley Beauchamp to a home several blocks from the crime scene. Beauchamp was detained and returned to the scene. She was interviewed and subsequently arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center for Murder.
