VICTORVILLE – Three including the gunman were arrested in connection with the Wednesday night shooting murder of a 12-year-old Victorville girl.
On Thursday evening at around 6:00 p.m. Anthony Pitts, 26, a gang member and the alleged gunman was located and arrested without incident in the City of Redlands while leaving his mother’s home.
Also arrested as a result of the shooting was Danielle Cummings, 29, and Reyna Mercado, 28, of the City of Adelanto. It is unclear what role Cummings and Mercado played in the murder at this time, but both were also arrested for murder.
Sheriff John McMahon in a Friday morning press conference said that there was an ongoing dispute between the suspects and Mikiya Walls‘ mother. McMahon confirmed that there was a police report taken against Walls mother and she was arrested for Criminal threats early Friday morning. The suspect shot into the home of the victim and although Mikiya was not the intended target, she was struck by the gunfire and died as a result of the shooting.
McMahon said that all of the recent killings were not random, the Phelan murder was a result of a property dispute, the shooting in the 16900 block of Jasmine Street in the City of Victorville related to a dispute over stolen marijuana, and the death of Mikiya, the unintended target, was resulting in a dispute between her family and the arrested individuals.
