REDLANDS, Calif. – A Redlands Police officer was badly injured in a crash as he responded to a man with a gun report at around 3:00 a.m. on Friday.
The officer rushed over driving eastbound on Lugonia Avenue when he lost control and struck a power pole near Church Street. The pole was sheared off, leaving much of the surrounding area with a temporary power outage. The officer sustained major injuries, including broken bones and was transported to the hospital.
The road near Church Street and Berkeley Drive were closed for several hours so that Southern California Edison could repair the power pole and restore power. The officer, according to Redlands Police officials, is doing well and is in good spirits.
