Riverside Man With Multiple Felony Warrants Arrested After Hit-and-Run Collision

CORONA – A Riverside man with multiple felony warrants was arrested on Monday after fleeing from a police officer. Just after noon, a Corona officer attempted to stop a white Volkswagen CC sedan for a vehicle code violation near Rimpau and Ontario Avenues. Intending to make contact with the driver regarding the violation, the officer turned on his emergency lights signaling for the vehicle to pull over.

Instead of pulling over, the driver turned northbound onto the southbound 1-15 off-ramp. Now, on the wrong side of the offramp and I-15 shoulder, the driver continued The officer stopped following the suspect due to the risk to public safety. Moments later the vehicle was involved in a non-injury traffic collision and continued driving away from the scene. “Ultimately, the VW drove off the shoulder of the freeway and down an embankment, about one-quarter of a mile North of Ontario Avenue,” Corona Police officials said.

The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot. He was found hiding west of the I-15 in the 1300 block of Pico Street. Janusz Arkadiusz Wolowiec, 21, was arrested for hit-and-run and four felony warrants for prior cases involving charges of auto theft, receiving stolen property, evading police, resisting arrest, and drug possession.
