BARSTOW, Calif. – A Barstow man was arrested and a Perris man was injured as he fled from deputies on a stolen motorcycle last week.
On Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at around 8:40 a.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle that was stolen during a residential burglary in Red Mountain. The vehicle was driving southbound on the 15 freeway in Barstow. Anthony Riggs, 41, of Barstow, was driving at the time of the stop and was arrested for the possession of a stolen vehicle.
The investigation led to a search of Riggs home in the 35100 block of Birch Road in the City of Barstow. “The warrant was an attempt to locate additional items stolen during the burglary,” Barstow Sheriff’s station officials said. “As the investigation continued, it was believed Raymond Cantley of Perris was previously in possession of the stolen vehicle. Cantley was found to have multiple warrants for his arrest and was believed to have fled from the location on a motorcycle prior to deputies arriving. Raymond Cantley, age 49 a resident of Perris “
Deputies found Cantley on a motorcycle in the area of National Trails and Frontier Road traveling southbound on National Trails Highway at around 5:45 p.m. The deputy attempted to stop the motorcycle but the rider failed to yield and sped away at a high rate of speed. “The motorcycle rider, later identified as Cantley, lost control of the motorcycle and crashed in the desert.” The motorcycle was learned to be stolen during the residential burglary in Red Mountain.
California Highway Patrol responded to the scene to handle the traffic collision investigation. Medical personnel responded to the scene and transported Cantley for treatment of his injuries.
The investigation is still ongoing for further recovery of the victim’s stolen property.
