DEVORE – A woman and a boy were killed after colliding into a disabled semi-tractor tow truck on the northbound 15 freeway near Glen Helen Parkway Saturday night. At around 9:35 p.m. CHP officials responded to the collision just north of Glen Helen Parkway in Devore. According to preliminary investigations, CHP officials said that the semi-tractor tow truck was driving northbound when it experienced a mechanical failure in the #4 lane of traffic.
Shortly after stopping, a red Chevy Camaro driven by a 30-year-old San Bernardino woman slammed into the back of the semi-tractor tow truck. Also in the vehicle, was a 9-year-old boy whom authorities believed to be her son. The San Bernardino County and Fontana Fire responded to the scene and paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
The boy was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at 10:48 p.m. The driver and passenger of the truck, who called 911 remained at the scene. “Several citizens stopped to help, one a Marine from Barstow, was able to cone off the lanes prior to CHP arriving to prevent additional accidents,” said witness David H. Ford.
The CHP declared a SIG alert at around 10:08 p.m. and #3, #4 and #5 lanes were closed for several hours for investigation and collision clean-up. The identity of the two deceased will be released pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.
