PHELAN, Calif. – A Phelan man reached out to his neighbors to ease any possible suspicions that may arise as he travels on his quad picking up trash.
Jim Mayes said that when his health allows he picks up trash off dirt roads and places it in his small trailer that is pulled by his quad. “No, I’m am not your local tweaker looking to jack your belongings,” Mayes said in a post to the Phelan Ca Facebook group. “I am just a bored old guy picking up trash.”
He asks that his Phelan neighbors please slow down while driving by him to minimize the dust that flies up. He also encourages others to get involved in the daunting task of desert debris pick up. “If you want to join forces and help out bring your quad and trailer,” he said. “Trash is dumped at your own expense as I dump it at mine.”
