RIVERSIDE – Two Moreno Valley teens and one Riverside teen was arrested today as a result of an investigation into an assault that occurred on Thursday. The incident took place at around 4:30 p.m. at Orange Terrace Park when the juveniles were out of school for the day. Two teens, both from Amelia Earheart Middle School were walking through the park when another teen from the same school attempted to fight one of the students. Students from Martin Luther King High School were also at the park and began following the kids, some of the teens even videotaping the incident with their phones.
One of the MLK High School students struck one of the middle school students in the back of the head with a skateboard. The middle school student struck went unconscious, and a second MLK student kicked one of the kids in the head while he was lying on the ground officials said. The incident was investigated by a Martin Luther King High School Resource Officer with the investigation leading to the arrest of three suspects. One of those arrested was a Moreno Valley resident and Amelia Earhart student who was arrested for battery. The other two were Riverside and Moreno Valley residents, who attend MLK High School who were arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. All three were booked into Juvenile Hall.
In a written statement, Riverside Police officials said, “The Riverside Police Department strives to keep our children safe during and after school. This incident has prompted additional police presence at our local parks, especially during times of early school release.”
