APPLE VALLEY – A 25-year-old Apple Valley was killed after being ejected from a stolen motorcycle sometime between the night of Friday, August 10, 2018, and the early morning hours of Saturday, August 11, 2018.
The Apple Valley Sheriff’s station received the report of the single-motorcycle crash in the area of South Road just east of Quinault Road. The reporting party, a nearby resident was driving on South Road when he noticed a man down on the road. The reporting party attempted to perform CPR on the man to no avail. Emergency personnel arrived and pronounced the man later identified as Michael Anthony Hoffman dead at the scene.
Further investigation determined that the motorcycle had been stolen out of San Bernardino. Authorities do not believe that there were any other vehicles or people involved in the collision. “ Hoffman appeared to lose control of the motorcycle while traveling east on South Road at unknown speeds just after the asphalt roadway ended into the dirt,” Apple Valley Sheriff’s officials said. “Hoffman appeared to have traveled into a dried, sunken, vehicle mud track in the dirt portion of the roadway and lost control.” The collision caused Hoffman to be thrown from the motorcycle, causing fatal injuries.
Investigators are seeking additional witnesses to this collision. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Deputy Greg Teplansky or Deputy Stuart Cullum of the Apple Valley Major Accident Investigations Team at 760-240-7400.
