MORONGO BASIN – Holding those who commit crimes accountable for their actions, the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s officials arrested 50 subjects during a warrant sweep on Saturday,

The sweep was conduction on Saturday, May 20, 2017, by the California State Parole along with deputies from the Morongo and Yucaipa Stations. The areas covered included the Town of Yucca Valley, the City of Twentynine Palms, and unincorporated areas of the Morongo Basin.

The sweep lasted most of the day, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. targeting those in violation of probation or parole, including minor traffic violations to violent crimes. The number of probationers and parolees on mandatory supervision has increased drastically since the passing of state laws including Proposition 47 and 57 which reduce the penalties for certain crimes and allow for more “good behavior” credits for early release.

Eight two-person teams went out arresting the 50 subjects, 43 of the subjects carrying active warrants; 8 felonies and 35 misdemeanors including three parolees in violation of their terms. Seven subjects were arrested for new charges; 5 misdemeanor and two felonies.
